Sumiko Tan wrote a pretty good article in the Sunday Times last
weekend on Envy. In Singapore. And how one can become envious, and
bitter, over the spiralling income gap. When you see the rich able
to acquire more and more luxuries while everyone else struggles to
keep their head above water due to the rising cost of living.
I fear that given the way things are going, with wages for the
elites and non elites moving in opposite directions at the same
time, jealousy and bitterness are going to tear society and
individuals apart.
Already we can see signs of this.
